Microsoft Authentication provides a second level of security after typing your password. Multi-factor authentication (MFA) is supported if you still use a password. When logging in with two factor authentication (2 FA), you enter your password and then you will be asked for additional ways to prove it. Either approve the notification sent to Microsoft Authenticator, or enter the one-time password (OTP) generated by the application. A 30 second timer is counted on one-time passwords (OTP codes). This timer so you never have to use the same time based One Time Password (TOTP) and you don’t have to remember the number. One Time Password (OTP) You do not need to be connected to any network and it does not drain your battery.
You can add multiple accounts to your app, including non-Microsoft accounts, such as LinkedIn, Github, Amazon, Dropbox, Google, Facebook and more. The application supports industry standards for time-based One Time Password (TTP), you can secure all your online accounts. Enable only two-factor authentication (2FA) on all your accounts. Then, when you sign in, you will provide your username and password as usual. Finally, you’ll enter the One Time Password (OTP) provided by the Microsoft Authentication application.
Sometimes your work or school may ask you to install Microsoft Authenticator when accessing certain files, emails or applications. With the application you need to register your device with your organization and add your work or school account. Microsoft Authentication supports certificate-based authentication by issuing certificates to your device. This will let your company know that the sign-in request is coming from a trusted device and will allow you to fully and securely access each of the additional Microsoft applications and services without logging in. Microsoft Authenticator supports single sign-on, once you’ve verified your identity, you don’t need to log in to other Microsoft apps on your device again.
